Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player questions about potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.
DLC: Demand Driven
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, they ultimately prioritized completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Resources are currently focused on that goal. However, Hamaguchi stated that significant player demand for additional content could lead to future DLC consideration. The addition of new content hinges on player feedback post-launch.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The PC version won't have official mod support, but Hamaguchi acknowledges the modding community's creativity and welcomes their contributions. He explicitly requests that modders refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for player-created content, ranging from enhanced visuals to entirely new gameplay elements, is significant, mirroring the impact of modding on other titles. However, the need to maintain a respectful and appropriate gaming environment necessitates this guideline.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts improved graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing criticisms of the PS5 version's sometimes "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. Higher-end systems will benefit from even more detailed 3D models and textures. The team also highlighted the challenges of adapting the game's mini-games for PC controls.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This follows the game's successful PS5 release on February 9th, 2024.
