Split Fiction Unveils New Surprises
First to Beat "Laser Hell" Challenge Win Hazelight Studios Trip
Split Fiction launched with a bang last month, and players continue to uncover exciting secrets, including the fiendishly tough "Laser Hell" stage. Two streamers triumphed over this challenge, earning a personal invitation from the game’s director to visit Hazelight Studios.
Streamers sharkOvO and E1uM4y shared their victory on BiliBili, showcasing their completion of the Laser Hell stage. To access it, players must input a precise sequence of switch presses in the Isolation level’s elevator, which then transports them to a laser-filled platform stage.
Upon completing the challenge, a video from Hazelight founder Josef Fares played, praising the duo’s skill and noting that even most developers struggled with the level. He invited them to visit Hazelight Studios in Sweden. Fares later reinforced this on Twitter (X) on March 19, writing, "Congrats to sharkOvO and E1uM4y for conquering the secret Laser Hell challenge in #splitfiction. Truly impressive! I’m keeping my promise—see you in Sweden for a sneak peek at our next game. We’ll be in touch!"
Hazelight Studios Gears Up for Next Project

In a March 17 interview with The Friends Per Second podcast, Fares discussed Hazelight’s partnership with EA and their early work on a new game.
Fares explained that Split Fiction felt uniquely special compared to his previous projects. "Once a game launches, I’m usually ready to move on," he said. "But this one’s different—it’s our best-received title yet. Still, I’m already thrilled about our next project, which we started working on recently."
While tight-lipped about details, Fares hinted at the new project’s early stages. "It’s too soon to share specifics," he said. "At Hazelight, we keep development to three or four years, so it’s not far off. We’re incredibly excited about what’s coming."

On Hazelight’s relationship with EA, Fares clarified, "EA supports us without meddling. We don’t pitch games to them—we just tell them what we’re making." He added, "They have no say in our creative process. While others may have issues with EA, they respect our work, and we’ve become one of their top-performing studios."
First Update and 2 Million Sales in One Week

On March 17, Split Fiction received an update addressing community-reported issues, including gameplay mechanics, minor online play glitches, localization, and subtitles across all languages.
The game also hit a major milestone, selling over 2 million copies in its first week. By comparison, Hazelight’s 2021 Game of the Year winner, It Takes Two, reached 1 million sales weeks after launch, eventually hitting 20 million by October 2024.
