The Flare Knife is a powerful combat item that significantly aids in these encounters. This guide details how to acquire and effectively use the Flare Knife against Abductors.

Acquiring the Flare Knife

The Flare Knife is surprisingly accessible early in the game. Once you achieve Level 003 Code Clearance, visit Zakka in The Warren. Zakka's inventory includes the Flare Knife, purchasable for 3,000 Entitlement Points. Equip it via the Loadout menu in the Personal Responsibility Portal, selecting an available Combat Item slot.

Utilizing the Flare Knife

The Flare Knife's primary function is severing Abductor limbs. This is beneficial for players favoring Polearms or Heavy Melee weapons, offering a limb-severing option without relying on Light Melee weapons. However, remember it's a single-use item; repurchase is necessary for subsequent Operations.

To use it, lock onto a severable Abductor part. Use your Thorn to grapple onto that body part. If the Flare Knife is equipped, a severing option appears. A quick-time event (QTE) follows, requiring rapid button mashing to successfully sever the limb. Be aware that Abductors might interrupt the process by leaping or crashing.

Cooperative play enhances Flare Knife usage. Snare the Abductor repeatedly with teammates to create more consistent severing opportunities.
