Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Adds Two Classic F-Zero GBA Racing Games!
Get ready for some high-speed racing! Nintendo has announced the addition of two classic Game Boy Advance F-Zero titles to its Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax Arrive October 11, 2024
Launching October 11, 2024
Starting October 11th, Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can experience the thrill of F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax.
Nintendo's futuristic racing franchise, F-Zero, first debuted in Japan over 30 years ago (1990). Critically acclaimed, the series pushed the boundaries of gaming technology for its time, establishing itself as one of the fastest racing games on retro consoles like the SNES, and inspiring other racing franchises, including SEGA's Daytona USA.
Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense racing action, track obstacles, and competitive battles between racers and their unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, is also a well-known fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a worldwide release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, has remained region-locked until now, marking a 19-year wait for a global release, preceding last year's release of the Switch's F-Zero 99. In an interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's popularity as a factor in the F-Zero series' extended hiatus. This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both titles to subscribers. Players can compete in Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials.
