Recent reports confirm that the God of War TV series adaptation is being rebooted. Showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have all left the project, despite reportedly completing multiple scripts. Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative direction.

However, Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio's Creative Director), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio) will remain as executive producers. Amazon and Sony will now search for a new showrunner, producers, and writers to reshape the series' vision. Crucially, the project itself remains uncancelled.

The Amazon and Sony collaboration for the God of War TV adaptation was initially announced on a PlayStation podcast in 2022, following the immense success of the 2018 game reboot. This project is part of Sony's broader strategy to adapt its acclaimed video game franchises into film and television. This initiative led to the creation of PlayStation Productions in 2019. The announcement also included a Netflix adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, with more adaptations of popular franchises to follow.

Already released are Uncharted (Naughty Dog, 2022), the highly successful The Last of Us (2023, with a second season slated for 2025), Gran Turismo (2023), and Twisted Metal (2024). Further projects in development include Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the recently announced Until Dawn film, set for release on April 25, 2025.
