A Nintendo interactive alarm clock? It's a reality! Alongside the newly revealed Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, a secretive Switch Online playtest has also been launched.

Priced at $99, the "Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo" is an interactive alarm clock designed to make waking up feel like stepping into a Nintendo game. The Alarmo uses game-inspired sounds from franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with free updates adding more sounds in the future.

The clock's interactive element lies in its ability to detect movement. It only silences when you fully leave your bed, rewarding your morning triumph with a "victory fanfare." Waving your hand simply lowers the volume; prolonged slumber increases the alarm's intensity.

Setup involves choosing a game theme, selecting a scene, setting the alarm time, and letting the Alarmo's motion-sensing technology take over.

Utilizing a "radio wave sensor," the Alarmo measures distance and movement speed without video recording, prioritizing user privacy. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama explains, "It can detect subtle movements, even in dark rooms or with obstacles, as long as the radio waves can penetrate."

Early Access and Availability:

Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can purchase the Alarmo exclusively through the My Nintendo Store for a limited time. The Nintendo New York store will also offer in-person purchases at launch.

Announcing a Nintendo Switch Online Playtest

Applications Open October 10!

Nintendo has also announced a Switch Online playtest. Applications open October 10th, 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET, and close October 15th, 7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET. Up to 10,000 participants will be chosen, with international participants selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The playtest itself runs from October 23rd to November 5th.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership by October 9th, 3:00 PM PDT.
• At least 18 years old by October 9th, 3:00 PM PDT.
• Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.
