Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Fuels Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Fever With a Picture of a Chocolate Cake

Six years after Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight, fans are still eagerly awaiting its release. Numerous appearances and disappearances at gaming events, and even a seemingly confirmed pre-June 2023 launch by Microsoft, have left fans on tenterhooks. The absence of Silksong at The Game Awards fueled speculation, but a recent event may have provided a significant clue.

The potential revelation centers around a seemingly innocuous image: a chocolate cake. Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake on January 15th, accompanied by the tweet: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

With rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal circulating for January 16th, the timing was highly suggestive. The subsequent Switch 2 announcement on that date ignited fervent speculation within the Hollow Knight community. A reverse image search of the cake led to a Bon Appétit recipe published on April 2nd, 2024, coinciding with the announced date of the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2. This sparked a theory that Pellen had initiated an alternate reality game (ARG), using the cake image and tweet as cryptic clues.

The mystery extends to Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, and name, "little bomey." Fans are analyzing the handle's length (15 characters, matching Twitter's character limit) and its potential connection to a Silksong NPC. The name "little bomey" is also under scrutiny, possibly referencing a Southern Australian wine, aligning with Team Cherry's location.

While the original announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms, the passage of six years raises questions about potential platform exclusivity or timed releases on the Switch 2. The current situation leaves fans grappling with the possibility of a cleverly orchestrated ARG, or simply the excited speculation of a highly anticipated game's release.

The answer remains elusive for now, but the coming months will reveal whether this intricate web of clues points to a Silksong release alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. Until then, the community continues its investigation.
