Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. The new series, taking place after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, will pen this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) will bring the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu providing cover art for the first issue.
Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series will depict the New Republic's struggle to solidify its power. The heroes will face new challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now venture into a new, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will feature fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending the familiar with the unexpected." He added that the stories will be action-packed, true to Star Wars character dynamics, and easily accessible to new readers.
Noto shared his excitement about illustrating classic characters in a post-Return of the Jedi setting, stating, "I get to create new looks for them while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of this timeline."
Star Wars #1 will debut on May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi project. In February, they'll release Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
