Mattel163 Drops Colourblind-Friendly Update ‘Beyond Colors’ In Skip-Bo Mobile, UNO! Mobile And Phase 10: World Tour

Mattel163 is enhancing inclusivity in its popular card games with a major update: Beyond Colors. This feature makes UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile more accessible to colorblind players.

What is Beyond Colors?

Beyond Colors addresses the challenges faced by the approximately 300 million people worldwide with color blindness. Instead of relying solely on color, the update replaces traditional card colors with distinct shapes—squares, triangles, and others—allowing all players to easily differentiate cards.

Enabling Beyond Colors:

Activating Beyond Colors is simple. In each game (Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile), tap your avatar, go to account settings, and enable the Beyond Colors deck under card theme options.

Collaboration and Accessibility:

Mattel163 collaborated with colorblind gamers to ensure the new symbols are effective and intuitive. This initiative reflects Mattel's broader commitment to accessibility, with a goal of making 80% of its games colorblind-accessible by 2025. The development process involved experts in color vision deficiency and the gaming community, exploring solutions such as patterns, tactile clues (where applicable), and symbols to ensure color isn't the sole identifier.
