MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter. The game's fifth season, launching February 4th, 2025, will be its last. The servers will officially shut down on May 30th, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

The final season will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). These, along with all other Season 5 content, will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

Offline Play Option

Players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline after May 30th. A local gameplay mode, supporting solo play against AI or multiplayer with up to three friends, will remain accessible. To retain this functionality, players must download the latest version of the game between February 4th and May 30th, 2025. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

In-game purchases were halted on January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (premium currency) can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Short but Significant Run

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates, including new characters and features, player numbers reportedly declined.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game will remain available for download until May 30th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
