"Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games"

Nintendo has announced the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the new Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher compared to other titles, and it's stirring up conversations among fans.

Upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrade for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree is more than double that amount each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version won't receive these enhancements automatically but can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy them.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, the Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Alongside these, you'll find enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and expanded online features.

While U.S. prices are not yet listed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade at £16.99 / €19.99, more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 required to upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

This $20 upgrade price for both games may be influenced by the $80 cost of the complete Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each, making the new editions $20 more expensive.

For those not upgrading, here's the pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:

- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack can upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. However, no such offer exists for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrades at this time.

Nintendo opened pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 today, April 24, maintaining the price at $449.99. The demand was as high as expected, with Nintendo warning U.S. customers who pre-ordered from the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
