The Nintendo Switch 2's price is a major topic of discussion in the gaming world. Industry analysts have informed IGN that they predict Nintendo's next-generation console will debut at $400, a figure corroborated by a recent Bloomberg report citing predictions from Japan-based market watchers.
A $400 launch price would be a notable increase over the original Switch. Another analyst mentioned to Bloomberg that a price as high as $499 wouldn't be surprising. However, these experts anticipate the Switch 2 will have a blockbuster launch, potentially becoming the biggest console release ever, "regardless of its final price."
"Nintendo will sell boatloads of the Switch 2, especially in the initial months, almost irrespective of the cost," Serkan Toto, an analyst based in Tokyo, told Bloomberg.

A key driver for the Switch 2's expected early popularity is its strong launch lineup. Toto anticipates a new Mario Kart title, hinted at during the console's reveal, alongside a new 3D Mario adventure. Add to that the confirmed releases of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all expected within the system's first year. Toto also predicts robust third-party support, including titles like Call of Duty from Activision.
A lengthy list of rumored third-party games is making the rounds. In a conversation with IGN, a developer from Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization 7, described the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse functionality as "definitely intriguing." French game and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for publishing Greedfall 2 and RoboCop: Rogue City, has stated it has Switch 2 titles prepared for launch. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for the platform. Last month, EA commented that major franchises like Madden, FC (formerly FIFA), and The Sims would be excellent fits for the Switch 2.
It's important to note that Activision has not officially confirmed its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the analyst report.
When can we expect the Switch 2? A June 2025 release date is gaining traction, not just in online forums but also among industry insiders. Robin Zhu, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein in Japan, told Bloomberg the console is anticipated for a June launch, with an initial shipment of 6 to 8 million units. If that inventory sells out quickly, the Switch 2 could outsell its predecessor as well as the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new sales records.

Some concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact of U.S. import tariffs on the Switch 2's price. The administration has imposed new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to caution that these could affect the cost and possibly the supply of video games, consoles, and related technology.
However, as Bloomberg highlighted, the Switch 2 will be assembled in Vietnam—a key U.S. trade partner—as well as China. This diversified manufacturing approach is seen as a way to mitigate potential risks for Nintendo.
Many details about the Switch 2 remain under wraps, but Nintendo has scheduled a Direct presentation for April 2nd where more information about the console will be revealed.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was first showcased in a teaser trailer earlier this year, which confirmed backwards compatibility and the inclusion of an extra USB-C port. Most specifics, including its full game library and the purpose of the new, mysterious Joy-Con button, were not disclosed, although the Joy-Con mouse theory gained significant attention.
Last month, a Nintendo patent hinted that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers might be attachable in an inverted position. This suggests the console might use gyroscopic technology akin to modern smartphones that operate without screen rotation lock. Unlike the original Switch, which used physical rails to secure the Joy-Cons, the new controllers seem to rely on magnets, allowing for attachment on either side of the console.
While this change may not drastically alter the core hardware, it gives players flexibility in positioning buttons, the headphone jack, and other elements. If this feature makes it to the final design, it could also inspire novel and interesting gameplay mechanics.
