Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, revealed several key design features. CEO Eddie Tsai subsequently confirmed details in an interview with The Verge.
The mockup highlighted a larger console, approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck. A significant change is the adoption of magnetic Joy-Con controllers, featuring SL and SR buttons that detach via a pin mechanism releasing the magnetic connection. Despite this, Tsai assured that the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.
Further enhancing the Joy-Con functionality, Genki revealed the presence of optical sensors within the mounting channel of each controller. This suggests potential integration with a new accessory, possibly enabling mouse-like functionality, a detail seemingly corroborated by recently leaked Switch 2 images.
While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit into the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remains currently unknown.
