"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

Author: Charlotte May 30,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen. Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have eagerly speculated about the potential use of the updated Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we received definitive confirmation that the Joy-Con can indeed function in "mouse mode," allowing users to glide the controllers over surfaces and mimic left-click and right-click actions using the analog sticks, much like a traditional mouse. Interestingly, two Joy-Con controllers can even be used simultaneously in mouse mode—one in each hand—or individually, with one operating in standard mode while the other functions as a mouse.

The latest development reveals even more exciting possibilities. As showcased through the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls can now be employed to navigate the Home menu on the Switch 2 itself.

According to Nintendo, placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a flat surface with the attachment side facing downward will trigger a cursor to appear on the screen. To activate this feature, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or another flat surface and move it accordingly.

"While using mouse controls, tilting the control stick enables scrolling through menus," Nintendo further explained, adding that mouse controls can be applied to the Home menu and compatible software. To revert to the standard thumbstick operation, simply rotate the Joy-Con 2 into a horizontal position.

Although details remain scarce regarding the exact number of games that will support mouse functionality, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology working with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, along with the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

Play The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders opened on April 24, maintaining its price point at $449.99—just as expected. For more information, refer to IGN’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
