Nintendo Teases New 3D Mario for Switch 2: 'Stay Tuned'

Nintendo is dropping hints that a new 3D Mario title may be on the horizon, though concrete details remain scarce. In a recent interview with CNN, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser acknowledged fan requests for another mainline Mario installment but refrained from confirming the development of a follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey. However, his remarks suggest that it won’t be long before more information surfaces.

While Bowser’s statements don’t guarantee an imminent announcement, they do quell confusion surrounding the absence of a traditional 3D Mario game in the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup. At the console's unveiling earlier this month, highlights included games like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World, but a more conventional Mario platformer was notably absent.

The last major Mario title, Super Mario Odyssey, launched in October 2017, leaving fans eager for what comes next. Although games like Donkey Kong Bananza may temporarily satiate expectations, they can’t replace the anticipation for a full-fledged Mario sequel. Given Mario’s pivotal role in Nintendo’s extensive library, it’s almost expected that a new 3D Mario adventure will emerge sooner rather than later.
