Paradox Interactive, the studio behind Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3, will unveil an "ambitious" new project next week.
While concrete details remain under wraps, the developer highlighted its 25-year legacy of creating and releasing strategy titles "that have transported players from the Roman Empire to the stars," hinting it is now "ready to announce the next major entry in the genre."
The mysterious title—currently known by its codename, Caesar—has been openly discussed in a series of developer diaries titled "Tinto Talks" on the studio’s forum. Through these updates, the team has gathered community input on feature concepts, core mechanics, and historical accuracy, noting that "the moment has arrived to introduce Caesar to the world."
The most recent Tinto Talks—named for the Barcelona-based development team, Studio Tinto—delved into the mechanics of Protestant faiths and the "final scenario covering all Western Christian denominations, the War of Religions," within their "highly confidential project codenamed Caesar."
This detail, along with the fact that the reveal trailer will premiere on the official Europa Universalis YouTube channel, strongly points toward a new installment in that beloved franchise—though nothing is yet confirmed.
Fans haven’t hesitated to speculate, with many reaching the same conclusion: the project is likely tied to Europa Universalis.
"The dev diaries haven't explicitly called it EU5, but everything teased so far strongly suggests it," noted one Reddit user. Another, replying to a comment about the video’s premiere location, joked: "Looking back, the clues were probably there all along."
"To be fair, it’s been an open secret for more than a year thanks to the Tinto Talks threads on the Paradox forums," added another community member.
To learn more and see whether the rumors hold true, watch Paradox’s announcement video at 9 AM PDT (12 PM EDT, 5 PM UK time) on May 8, 2025, and witness "a new era for grand strategy."
We greatly enjoyed the last Europa Universalis release, awarding it an 8.9/10 in IGN’s Europa Universalis IV review, where we praised, "Europa Universalis IV introduces greater accessibility and flexibility to the strategy series without sacrificing its depth."
