Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which significantly enhances its ties to the Superman universe by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the opening scene. The trailer starts with Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl conducting a dismissive interview with John Cena's Peacemaker for a potential superhero team. The interview quickly goes south, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out.

This trailer offers the first glimpse of these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The tagline for the season encapsulates its theme perfectly: "Achieving peace is a team effort."

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on August 21, following the release of Superman on July 11. This makes it the third entry in the newly formed DCU, which kicked off with the Creature Commandos TV series late last year.

James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU in a new direction, distancing it from the critically panned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU are being retained, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 of the show was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 marks its transition into the new DCU.

James Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which specific elements will carry over. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, including John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Moreover, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the events of the latter directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
