Sonic Rumble Delayed: Sega Prepares Update

Author: Jason May 26,2025

Although Sonic Rumble had an exciting pre-launch crossover event spotlighting Super Monkey Ball, Altered Beast, and other Sega classics, the much-anticipated global debut is on hold. The multiplayer battle royale game, which had amassed over 1.4 million pre-registrations, will not be launching as planned. Sega has decided to delay the release to fine-tune the experience.

The delay is to ensure a robust update with version 1.2, which will introduce exciting new content to Sonic Rumble’s toybox world, masterminded by Dr. Eggman. This update features Rumble Rankings, Crews, and character Skills, all set to enhance the gameplay and give players more objectives beyond just securing a chaotic victory.

Rumble Rankings will allow you to climb seasonal leaderboards and earn rewards, while Crews will enable you and your friends to tackle score missions together. The new Skills system will equip characters with unique abilities, adding strategic depth to your battles.

Sega has chosen to delay the launch to perfect these new features rather than rushing them out. However, fans won’t be left in the dark. A Q&A session is scheduled for May 2nd on Discord, providing an opportunity to learn more about what’s coming and to ask any burning questions you might have.
