Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

Author: Joseph Feb 12,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 (PS4) games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 (PS5) titles.

This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, means PS4 games will be offered less frequently in the monthly games and Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will stay playable until their scheduled removal.

Sony's statement emphasizes its commitment to evolving PlayStation Plus, ensuring continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company highlights the increasing PS5 player base as the driving force behind this change, noting a preference for PS5 game redemption and access.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony's decision reflects a market shift towards the newer console. The future placement of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further announcements expected closer to the date.
