Sony Unveils New AAA PlayStation Studio: A Game-Changing Development

Sony's Secret Los Angeles Studio: A New AAA IP in the Works

A newly-opened PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, is generating significant buzz within the gaming community. Confirmed by a recent job posting, this 20th addition to PlayStation's first-party lineup is developing a high-profile, original AAA title exclusively for the PS5.

The secrecy surrounding this studio has fueled much speculation. Given PlayStation's impressive roster of first-party developers (Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and many more), the anticipation for its projects is always high. Recent acquisitions like Housemarque, Bluepoint Games, and Firesprite further demonstrate Sony's commitment to expanding its development capabilities. This unannounced studio represents another exciting expansion.

One prominent theory suggests the studio might house a team spun off from Bungie. Following Bungie's layoffs in July 2024, 155 employees transitioned to Sony Interactive Entertainment, potentially forming the core of this new venture. This aligns with Bungie's previously announced "Gummybears" incubation project.

Another compelling possibility involves Jason Blundell, a veteran Call of Duty developer. Blundell co-founded Deviation Games, a studio working on a PS5 AAA title before its closure in March 2024. However, many former Deviation Games employees subsequently joined PlayStation under Blundell's leadership, suggesting a possible resurrection of their previous project within this new studio. Considering the longer development time frame, Blundell's team is a strong contender for the identity of the new studio.

While the specifics remain shrouded in mystery, the confirmation of a new PlayStation first-party studio developing an original AAA IP is exciting news for fans. While an official announcement may be years away, the knowledge of yet another PlayStation game in development is cause for celebration.
