Stardew Valley: How To Befriend The Dwarf

This guide helps you befriend the enigmatic Dwarf in Stardew Valley. He's a unique character, requiring you to learn Dwarvish to build a relationship.

Meeting the Dwarf

Locate a large boulder to the right of the Mines entrance on the first floor. Destroy it (copper pickaxe or bomb) to reveal the Dwarf's shop.

Learning Dwarvish

The Dwarf doesn't speak common tongue. You must donate all four Dwarf Scrolls to the Museum. Gunther will then reward you with a Dwarvish Translation guide. Now you can communicate!

Gifting the Dwarf

Friendship is built through gifts (two per week). His birthday (Summer 22nd) doubles the friendship points gained.

Loved Gifts (+80 friendship):

• Gemstones: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Jade, Ruby, Topaz, Emerald
• Lemon Stone
• Omni Geode
• Lava Eel
• All universally loved gifts

Liked Gifts (+45 friendship):

• All universally liked gifts
• All Artifacts
• Cave Carrot
• Quartz

Disliked & Hated Gifts (Friendship Decrease):

Avoid mushrooms, foraged items, and universally hated gifts (except Artifacts).

Movie Theater Interactions

Once unlocked, take the Dwarf to the Movie Theater. He loves all movie choices but is picky about snacks.
