Here's something I never imagined saying: Hollywood is making a live-action Toys "R" Us movie.

Per Variety, Story Kitchen - the production house behind nearly every recent video game adaptation including the Sonic the Hedgehog films - aims to "recreate that childhood magic in a contemporary, action-packed adventure celebrating the toy retailer's 70+ year legacy."

"Toys 'R' Us remains an iconic brand that sparks nostalgia for generations," explained Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. "As '80s kids who viewed Toys 'R' Us as a wonderland, we're thrilled to craft a movie embodying the playful spirit and imaginative adventures the brand represents."

The project draws creative inspiration from Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, plus successful toy-related films like Barbie. While casting details remain under wraps, Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval will produce alongside Kim Miller Olko representing Toys "R" Us Studios.

"As our first theatrical venture, this film will translate our brand's magic to cinema," said Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios. "The story will capture the limitless imagination and joyful discovery that made our stores beloved destinations across generations."

Story Kitchen has multiple gaming adaptations in development including Just Cause with director Ángel Manuel Soto (Blue Beetle), plus Dredge, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs projects currently in progress.
