The announcement shared how creative director Chris Bourassa and Red Hook co-founder Tyler Sigman first approached June to narrate the original game's trailer. This began what they described as "an extraordinary creative partnership." They praised June's distinctive deep voice that added grandeur to every line he delivered.

"He was the consummate professional whose passion for his art was truly inspiring. His unique contributions are permanently etched into gaming history. Getting to write for him over these past ten years has been one of my greatest privileges. Though we never met in person, I considered him a friend. Thank you, Wayne," Bourassa's heartfelt tribute concluded.

Speaking with PC Gamer, Bourassa revealed he discovered June through his acclaimed readings of H.P. Lovecraft audiobooks - recordings he listened to regularly before founding Red Hook. He shared these recordings with Sigman, who similarly marveled at June's ability to vividly bring texts to life through voice alone.

"Originally we thought, 'We should find someone who sounds like Wayne June for our trailer.' Then we realized - Wayne June literally makes his living doing voice work! Maybe he'd consider our project. His narration was so exceptional that we completely rewrote the game to feature his voice," Bourassa explained. June's voice became inseparable from Darkest Dungeon's identity, continuing through its sequel.
