2025's Final Witcher 3 Patch Enables Console Mods

The Witcher 3 will receive another update in late 2025, introducing cross-platform mod support and making mods accessible on consoles for the first time.

CD Projekt announced the patch as part of The Witcher 3’s 10-year anniversary celebrations. The update will bring cross-platform mod compatibility to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year. According to CD Projekt, “For the first time, creating, sharing, and enjoying mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be easier and more accessible than ever.”

Cross-platform mod support will roll out via a game update later this year. To access it, players must have a mod.io account linked to their CD Projekt Red account. Existing modding services will continue to function, meaning PC players are not required to use mod.io. However, console players will need mod.io to use mods.

It is important to note that while Xbox Series X|S and PS5 players can enjoy a wide variety of mods through cross-platform support, mods must still be created on PC using tools like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit.

This is a remarkable update for the decade-old game, which continues to attract a large and active player base years after its initial release.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now sold an impressive 60 million copies. This figure includes sales of the base game and the Game of the Year edition, but not separately sold expansions. The Witcher 3 is nearing the sales milestone of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In a June 2023 interview with IGN, Bethesda’s Todd Howard stated that Skyrim had sold over 60 million copies. This positions both titles as potential contenders for the best-selling RPG of all time.

Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, commented on The Witcher 3’s sales achievement:

Undoubtedly, the third chapter of Geralt’s journey represents a turning point for our studio. The game received hundreds of awards and established our reputation, but more importantly, it delivered countless hours of adventure and emotion to millions of players worldwide. I am proud to announce that The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies, ranking among the best-selling video games in history and inspiring us to continue our work on the next trilogy in this universe.

This refers to The Witcher 4, which is currently in full production. At CD Projekt, 422 out of 730 developers are working on the sequel, expected to release no earlier than 2027.
