The long-awaited sequel to the beloved adventure game, Ōkami, announced at last year's Game Awards, has finally received some clarification. While details remain scarce, recent interviews with the project leads have shed some light on the upcoming title.

Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed to IGN that the sequel is a direct continuation of the original Ōkami's storyline. When pressed on whether the trailer's protagonist was indeed Amaterasu, director Hideki Kamiya offered a cryptic "I wonder...", but Hirabayashi swiftly confirmed it.

PlayWhile not surprising to fans, the sequel's existence raises questions about the Nintendo DS prequel, Ōkamiden, starring Amaterasu's child, Chibiterasu. Ōkamiden received mixed reviews, partly due to its platform and the absence of key original team members like Kamiya. Hirabayashi acknowledged the game's existence and the varied player feedback, stating that the new sequel directly continues the original Ōkami's narrative.

The original Ōkami's ending, without revealing spoilers, sets the stage for a sequel by depicting Amaterasu and another character embarking on a new, unexplored journey, ripe with potential conflicts and challenges.

However, fans will have to exercise patience. The team confirmed the sequel is in its very early stages of development, the early announcement driven by excitement. According to Hirabayashi, further updates are some time away.
