Even though Yetuga marks your first boss encounter in the game, don't let that fool you into thinking it'll be a walk in the park. After familiarizing yourself with the combat mechanics, you'll need to master them to triumph over this aggressive adversary. Located at the end of the Mount Heinmach level, Yetuga is a formidable beast that unleashes both long and short-range attacks, including a devastating leaping slam.

To tackle Yetuga effectively, your strategy should revolve around perfecting your dodges and parries to minimize damage. Here’s a rundown of Yetuga’s arsenal:

  • Two-hit combo starting with a left-handed smash downward followed by a right-handed uppercut.
  • Four-hit combo featuring horizontal swipes with either its left or right arm.
  • Downward smash with both arms.
  • Leaping single-handed smash.
  • Jumping grab.
  • A charge attack.

As you engage in the fight, you'll start to recognize Yetuga's patterns, allowing you to strike back during its brief moments of vulnerability. Parrying, except for the jumping grab, not only helps you avoid damage but also inflicts more Stamina damage on the boss. Use Yetuga's aggressive nature to your advantage; for instance, dodging its charge and letting it crash into a wall can leave it open for a short period, enabling you to land free hits and potentially shatter the ice spikes on its back, thereby weakening its offensive capabilities.

In the second phase, you can parry all of Yetuga's attacks except the grab, which conserves your Stamina. Keep up the pressure and deal enough damage to trigger Yetuga's next phase. When the beast roars and powers up, quickly create some distance. Yetuga will then grab a giant rock to smash you, so time your dodge or parry perfectly to avoid taking damage. Additionally, it will employ a frost breath that generates ice spikes; either move out of the way or parry when the attack comes at you. Capitalize on Potent Attacks when possible, and when Yetuga shows signs of exhaustion, unleash a Brutal Attack to deal significant damage and hasten its downfall.

Upon defeating Yetuga, you'll be rewarded with 4,800 Lacrima, along with several Frozen Mountain gear items and the Necklace of Resolve.
