Deltarune Chapter 4 Development Update: Closer to Release, but Still Some Time to Go
Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared a progress update on Deltarune in his newsletter. While good news abounds, fans will need to remain patient.
Chapter 4 is nearing completion. All maps are finished, and battles are playable, though some polishing remains. Fox notes minor improvements needed for cutscenes, battle balancing, visual enhancements, and background additions. Despite this, he considers it largely playable and has received positive feedback from testers.
The simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4, previously announced, is still some time away. The complexities of multi-platform and multilingual releases, coupled with the fact this is a paid release, necessitate thorough testing and refinement.
Fox outlined key tasks before release: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing. Chapter 3 development is complete. Interestingly, early work on Chapter 5 has already begun.
The newsletter offered a glimpse into upcoming content, including Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, an Elnina character description, and a new item: GingerGuard. While the wait is longer than anticipated, Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than the first two chapters, and future chapter releases will be more streamlined. A specific release date remains unannounced.
