Hyper Light Breaker, the eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved indie game Hyper Light Drifter, introduces several major changes to its predecessor's formula. Transitioning from 2D pixel art to a stunning 3D aesthetic while retaining its visual charm, this rogue-lite adventure incorporates extraction mechanics and – most notably – multiplayer support.
Cooperative multiplayer isn't just an add-on in Hyper Light Breaker - it's a central feature that enhances many aspects of gameplay. This guide explains both how to team up with friends and how to use the public matchmaking system.
How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends
To initiate co-op sessions with friends, you'll need to set up a private multiplayer lobby. After arriving in the Cursed Outpost (the game's hub area), look for the counter to the left of your commander Pherus Bit, who stands opposite the main entrance.
Press the interact button (typically R1/RB) to access the multiplayer menu. Here you can create or join teams, or check pending invitations. To start a private session, select "Create Breaker Team."
Enable the "Password Required" option and create a unique password. Once your private lobby is active, invite up to two friends through your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, or Steam). The game supports three-player squads.
Your friends should receive invites through the "Invitations" tab if they're online. Alternatively, they can join directly through invitation links or browse active private lobbies (provided they know your password).
Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker
For solo players seeking co-op partners, Hyper Light Breaker offers public matchmaking. You can either host an open lobby (by creating a team without a password) or join random public groups.
Access the "Join Breaker Team" option in the multiplayer menu and select "Join Random Public Breaker Team" at the bottom. The system will automatically match you with an available public lobby.
To leave a multiplayer session, return to the counter and choose the "Disconnect" option in the multiplayer menu. Alternatively, simply quitting the game will also end your multiplayer session.
