Hideki Kamiya Expresses Interest in Devil May Cry Remake
Modern Approach Planned for Potential Remake
The gaming industry has seen a resurgence of classic titles being reimagined, with notable examples including Final Fantasy VII Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Now, Devil May Cry could join this prestigious list as its creator Kamiya shows renewed interest.
During a May 8 YouTube Q&A session, Kamiya addressed fan inquiries about potential remakes. When questioned about reviving the original Devil May Cry, he responded enthusiastically: "That's exactly the kind of remake I'd love to tackle."
Game's 2001 Origins Revealed
Initially conceived as Resident Evil 4, the 2001 classic underwent radical transformation before emerging as Devil May Cry. Kamiya recently shared the personal story behind the game's creation, revealing how heartbreak became creative fuel.
"In 2000, I went through a devastating breakup," Kamiya confessed. "That pain and emotion became the driving force behind Devil May Cry's development."
The PlatinumGames veteran admitted he never revisits his completed works, though occasional gameplay footage reminds him how much the industry has evolved. "When I see clips now, it's clear this was designed 24 years ago," he noted, adding that any remake would utilize contemporary technology and game design philosophy.
While not currently planning specifics, Kamiya affirmed his creative process: "When the time comes - and if Capcom entrusts me with it - the ideas will flow. That's how I work." Beyond Devil May Cry, the developer also expressed interest in reviving Viewtiful Joe, exciting fans about potential future projects.
