Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

The temporary US shutdown of TikTok on January 19th unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). The game, developed by Second Dinner Studios, became inaccessible for a day before being partially restored. However, in-app purchases remain unavailable.

This disruption, attributed to political risks surrounding TikTok's ongoing negotiations to sell a 50% stake to a US entity, prompted Second Dinner to explore alternative publishers and internalize some services. The 90-day extension granted for the sale leaves Marvel Snap vulnerable to future blockades if the deal fails.

Second Dinner assures players, via an official Platform X statement, that "Marvel Snap is here to stay" and that they are diligently working to fully restore the game and its in-app purchase functionality. Further updates are promised.

The sudden outage caused significant frustration, particularly due to the lack of prior warning, leaving many players unaware of the potential lockout and continuing to make in-game purchases. While PC players via Steam could still access the game, many experienced authorization problems. The developers expressed surprise at the event and are committed to resolving the issues swiftly.
