Last of Us Season 2 Gets Premiere Month, New Trailer

HBO's The Last of Us Season 2: April Premiere Confirmed, New Trailer Unveiled

Sony's CES 2025 showcase delivered exciting news for fans of HBO's post-apocalyptic drama, The Last of Us. A new trailer confirmed the highly anticipated second season will premiere in April. The trailer offered glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson and the memorable scene of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) dancing, sparking anticipation among viewers.

While co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that The Last of Us Part II's story might span three seasons, this seven-episode season (shorter than Season 1's nine) will likely not be a complete adaptation of the game's sequel. The trailer showcases creative liberties, including a scene depicting Joel Miller's (Pedro Pascal) therapy session, a detail absent from the game.

The concise, action-packed trailer, clocking in at just over a minute, featured several rapid-fire scenes highlighting emotional and iconic moments from the game. The trailer's conclusion, a red flare illuminating the screen, confirmed the April premiere, narrowing down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June). A specific date remains unannounced.

New Footage and Speculation:

Although much of the new trailer comprised footage from last year's initial teaser, fresh scenes generated significant buzz. Dever's portrayal of Abby, the Ellie/Dina dance sequence, and the opening alarm sequence, triggering chilling flashbacks for gamers, were particular highlights. The trailer's Roman numeral styling, reminiscent of Part II's aesthetic, also caught fans' attention. Speculation continues regarding Catherine O'Hara's role, and the possibility of a yet-unannounced cast member.

While Season 1 introduced original characters like Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) and Perry (Jeffrey Pierce), anticipation remains high for the live-action debuts of characters from Part II, including Jesse (Young Mazino), and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon, reprising his voice acting role from the game.
