Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't even begun. He revealed to Decider that he hasn't yet recorded any lines, and that several aspects of the film are still "being figured out." This news comes as little surprise, considering the five-year gap between the first and second films.
Jerome stated definitively, "No, I wish," when asked about the commencement of production. He added, "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively small, his character is poised to become a significant antagonist in the third installment. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who emerges at the film's conclusion not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.
This alternate Miles experiences a drastically different fate. The radioactive spider bite intended for him instead affects the main timeline's Miles. Consequently, this Miles never becomes Spider-Man, and following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York falls under the control of supervillains, with Miles himself becoming one.
The resolution of this storyline, and its impact on the main Miles Morales, will undoubtedly be central to Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans should prepare for a considerable wait, with Deadline suggesting a 2026 release at the earliest, or potentially as late as 2028 if the production timeline mirrors that of the previous film.
