Exciting news for fans of Stellar Blade—developer Shift Up has officially announced a fully-fledged sequel to the PlayStation-published action game. Launched in April 2024, Stellar Blade received a warm welcome from players, who praised its gameplay for skillfully blending elements reminiscent of NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The confirmation came via a chart in Shift Up's latest financial results, showcasing the company's future plans. This chart, which was part of a presentation slide, highlighted how Shift Up intends to expand its franchises before 2027. Among the upcoming projects, the Stellar Blade sequel is prominently listed as the next title in the pipeline.
Before diving into the sequel, fans can look forward to a "platform expansion" for Stellar Blade. This expansion is likely referring to the much-anticipated PC version, set to launch on June 11, 2025. This period will also see the debut of Shift Up's enigmatic new project, Project Witches, a multiplatform action RPG that's still shrouded in mystery.
Earlier this week, Shift Up addressed a concerning issue regarding a PC region lock that had blocked the game's store page on Steam in over 100 countries. The developer is actively working with Sony to resolve this matter.
In our review at IGN, Stellar Blade was described as a visually stunning and well-crafted action game with notable strengths, yet it also has clear weaknesses. While the narrative and characters were criticized for lacking depth, and some RPG elements, like repetitive sidequests, were found lacking, the game's action more than compensates. The combat system, inspired by Sekiro, offers solid fundamentals, and the game features a plethora of challenging enemies and hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration.
