Xbox's Multi-Platform Push Expands: Halo and Flight Simulator Rumored for PS5 and Switch 2
A recent report from industry insider NateTheHate suggests a significant expansion of Microsoft's multi-platform strategy. The report claims that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are in development for both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with potential releases slated for 2025.
Microsoft's initiative to bring first-party titles to other consoles began in February 2024, with games like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves leading the charge. As Dusk Falls, while not directly developed by a Microsoft subsidiary, also joined the multi-platform roster after an initial Xbox exclusivity period. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 arrived on other platforms in October 2024, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is expected to follow suit on the PS5 in Spring 2025.
NateTheHate's report indicates that Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a compilation of six Halo games, is planned for both PS5 and Switch 2 in 2025. The insider also predicts a similar move for Microsoft Flight Simulator, most likely referring to the recently released MFS 2024.
This isn't an isolated claim. Another reputable leaker, Jez Corden, tweeted that "way more" Xbox games will be making their way to PS5 and Switch 2 in 2025, suggesting an end to the era of exclusive Xbox titles.
The future of Call of Duty on non-Xbox platforms is also largely confirmed. Microsoft's agreement with Nintendo guarantees Call of Duty releases on Nintendo consoles for ten years. The absence of Switch titles to date might be attributed to the anticipation of the more powerful Switch 2, better equipped to handle the graphical demands of modern Call of Duty games.
