The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Aim for Witcher 3 Quality

Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is developing The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG aiming for the quality of The Witcher 3, albeit on a smaller scale. This article delves into the game's development and the director's vision.

A Focused AAA Experience

The Blood of Dawnwalker's Ambitious Scope

In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the game's ambition. While acknowledging the studio's size and the project's debut status, he emphasized their commitment to AAA quality, citing The Witcher 3 as their benchmark.

Tomaszkiewicz addressed the "AA" grey area, stating that their target is definitively AAA in terms of quality. The team's experience, stemming from their work on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, underpins this aspiration. Rebel Wolves, founded by Mateusz and Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, prioritizes creative freedom, a key driver behind their independent venture.

A Dark Fantasy World Awaits

The game's scope, while smaller than a typical AAA title, is designed for depth, not just breadth. Tomaszkiewicz anticipates a 30-40 hour main campaign, arguing that playtime isn't the sole measure of AAA status, citing shorter AAA titles like Call of Duty as examples.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players embody Coen, a peasant imbued with vampiric powers, embarking on a quest to save his sister while navigating a hostile world.

Currently, there's no confirmed release date, but a gameplay reveal is planned for Summer 2025. The game is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
