Renowned director Guy Ritchie is set to helm the sequel to Amazon MGM's 2024 Road House remake, as reported by Variety. Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise his starring role as Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter turned bouncer.

The sequel starring Gyllenhaal was officially announced in May 2023, shortly after the successful March 2024 premiere of the remake. During its first two weeks on Prime Video, Road House garnered more than 50 million views, becoming Amazon MGM Studios' most-watched original film debut globally at the time.

While Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directed the 2024 remake, he publicly expressed dissatisfaction with its streaming release, making his return improbable.

"Road House was originally created for theatrical release through MGM," Liman stated. "Everyone involved was compensated accordingly, but Amazon changed plans without adjusting payments. Beyond industry implications—despite 50 million viewers—Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel Silver, and I received no additional compensation, which is fundamentally unfair."

Gyllenhaal countered these claims, maintaining Amazon had always planned a streaming release.

The sequel will mark Ritchie and Gyllenhaal's third collaboration, following their successful Amazon MGM war drama Guy Ritchie's The Covenant (2023). The duo is also working on the action thriller In the Grey alongside Henry Cavill, though no release date has been announced.

Screenwriter Will Beall (Gangster Squad, Bad Boys franchise) is crafting the script for Road House 2. While plot details remain scarce, Ritchie continues his prolific output—having directed episodes of Paramount+'s new MobLand starring Tom Hardy, with his next film Fountain of Youth premiering on Apple TV+ this month.
