Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), the highly anticipated medieval RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and misinformation regarding the inclusion of Denuvo or other DRM technologies.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: No DRM Confirmed
Developer Quashes DRM Rumors
Recent claims suggesting KCD2 would incorporate DRM have been definitively refuted by Warhorse Studios. During a Twitch stream, PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling explicitly stated that the game will not utilize Denuvo or any other DRM system. He attributed the confusion to miscommunication and urged players to cease inquiries about DRM integration. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any information contradicting this statement is inaccurate.
"KCD 2 will be entirely DRM-free," Stolz-Zwilling clarified. "There were discussions, some misunderstandings, but ultimately, no DRM will be present." He appealed to fans to stop repeatedly questioning the game's DRM status.
Concerns about DRM's potential impact on game performance, particularly Denuvo's perceived negative effects, have been prevalent among gamers. Denuvo's anti-piracy functionality has drawn criticism for causing performance issues in some titles. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is slated for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith apprentice, as he confronts the devastating destruction of his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
