The developers at Warhorse Studios are tired of the negative online reaction to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) and simply want to create an enjoyable gaming experience. In a February 3, 2025 interview with PC Gamer, PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling addressed the backlash over the game's increased diversity.

Stolz-Zwilling stated, "Several years ago, we were labeled one way; now it's another. It feels like we're constantly being labeled, while we're just trying to make a great game." This follows criticism from fans and critics regarding the game's inclusion of LGBTQ+ content and other elements perceived as "woke."

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner echoed this sentiment, adding, "We believe the most extreme voices are never satisfied."

KCD2's setting in Kuttenberg allows for a far more diverse environment than its predecessor. Bittner explained, "Kuttenberg's diversity stems from its role as the royal mint." As Bohemia's financial center, Kuttenberg attracted people from various parts of the world, resulting in a more diverse population than other locations in the series.

Bittner highlighted the inclusion of various cultural and ethnic elements, such as Italians, German-speaking individuals, and a Jewish quarter. He emphasized, "It's crucial not just to include these people, but also their perspectives, which are often underrepresented in games or media claiming to be diverse."

Stolz-Zwilling clarified that neither Plaion nor Embracer, their publishers, dictated the inclusion of specific agendas. The game's direction was shaped solely by community feedback. He affirmed, "Everything in the game is well-researched and thoroughly considered."

Pre-Orders Remain Unaffected by Recent Backlash

Warhorse Studios addressed rumors of players requesting refunds following the controversy. KCD2 Writer Daniel Vávra tweeted that the game's return rate remains consistent despite the negative attention. He attributed the game's lower Steam chart position to concurrent discounts on nine popular titles, noting that even Monster Hunter: Wilds pre-orders saw a decline.

In January 2025, Vávra faced criticism over KCD2's queer representation, sparking false rumors of a Saudi Arabian ban due to unskippable LGBTQ+ scenes. He refuted these rumors, stating, "It's a role-playing game; player choices and their consequences reflect the morals and social norms of the era."
