Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This follows a "not-a-trailer-trailer" released last month by Gallium Studio, the game's developer. The livestream provided significant new details about this highly anticipated title, initially announced in 2018.

BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising and awareness. Their "Dev Diaries" series features interviews with game developers, and Wright's appearance provided insights into Proxi's development and his personal connection to the project (if any).

Proxi is described as an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories in paragraph form, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each added memory ("mem") trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons.

This mind world expands with the addition of memories, and becomes populated with "Proxies" representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies to reflect the context of the memory. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox.

The game's core goal is to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." Wright emphasized his desire for a deeply personal player experience, hence the focus on individual memories. He humorously noted his belief that "no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," adding, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
