Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Directed Mode Has Been Huge for Zombies

Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted main quest completion rates among Zombies players. While many prioritize survival, Directed mode has successfully engaged a larger portion of the player base in the game's narrative.

The Call of Duty Zombies mode, introduced in World at War, has always featured a storyline, which has grown increasingly complex over numerous iterations. Despite a decline in overall Black Ops 6 player numbers, the Zombies mode retains a dedicated following. The wave-based gameplay often leads players to focus on weapon upgrades and survival rather than story progression. Directed mode, added in Season 1, has proven remarkably effective in addressing this.

A recent blog post reveals that Directed mode doubled the main quest completion rate, from 4% to 8.23%, based on a staggering 480 million hours of gameplay. While this represents a substantial improvement—achieving Treyarch's goal of increasing story engagement—the studio acknowledges that the vast majority (over 90%) of players still haven't completed the main quest and are exploring further improvements.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode: A Significant Storyline Enhancement

Included in Black Ops 6's Season 1 update alongside new maps and game modes, Directed mode provides structured guidance, facilitating easier access to the intricate Zombies storyline. This storyline, involving elements like interdimensional travel and time manipulation, can be challenging for newcomers to follow. Unlike previous installments, which largely left players to decipher the narrative independently, Directed mode offers a more accessible path through the story.

The introduction of Directed mode marks a significant step towards increased main quest completion rates. Treyarch's ongoing updates to Black Ops 6 and Directed mode itself suggest further improvements to these statistics are likely in the future.
