Sony has pulled the plug on its PlayStation Stars loyalty initiative less than three years after its debut.
The rewards program stopped accepting new members today, with existing participants facing permanent account deletion if they choose to cancel - including the loss of all accumulated points.
Current members can keep earning rewards points until July 23, 2025, with final redemption opportunities available through November 3, 2026.
Although the program is ending, Sony confirms your collection of Digital Collectibles - including that prized Jim Ryan bobblehead - will remain accessible for the time being.
"Through careful analysis of player engagement patterns and industry shifts, we've made the strategic decision to sunset PlayStation Stars in its current form," explained Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertisiting, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise. "These insights will inform how we evolve our customer engagement strategies moving forward."
The announcement came without details about potential successor programs or what specific lessons Sony learned from the initiative.

First introduced in July 2022, PlayStation Stars aimed to reward PlayStation Store purchases and engagement activities like completing surveys or trying new game features with redeemable points. Positioned as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards program, both platforms have gradually scaled back their benefit structures.
The program faced operational challenges last summer with a monthlong outage, followed by significant reductions in value last October - including shortened point expiration windows and the removal of PlayStation Plus subscriptions from reward eligibility. Now comes the final curtain for the program entirely.
