Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare

Dead by Daylight's Nightmare Receives a Major Rework

Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is getting a significant overhaul in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. This rework aims to address player concerns regarding his current weakness and bring him more in line with his iconic horror persona. The changes focus on increased flexibility and strategic depth, making him a more competitive Killer.

Key changes include the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, offering greater tactical options. Dream Snares are receiving a speed boost (12 m/s), the ability to traverse walls and stairs, and unique interactions depending on whether a Survivor is asleep or awake. Asleep Survivors will be hindered, while awake Survivors will see their sleep meter increase.

Dream Pallets, too, are getting an upgrade. They can now be triggered to explode, inflicting damage and significantly impacting the Survivor's sleep meter. The effect varies depending on the Survivor's sleep state.

The Nightmare's teleportation ability is also enhanced. He can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) in the Dream World. Furthermore, he can now teleport near Survivors actively healing, revealing them via Killer Instinct and boosting their sleep meter. The teleport cooldown has been reduced to 30 seconds, but it's no longer cancellable.

Several Add-Ons will be adjusted to encourage creative Killer builds. However, The Nightmare's perks remain unchanged, possibly to preserve his original design intent.

Here's a summary of the upcoming changes:

  • [CHANGE] Swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets using the Active Ability.
  • [NEW] Dream Snares move at 12 m/s (5-second cooldown), traverse walls and stairs (but not ledges), and have unique effects on sleeping and awake Survivors.
  • [NEW] Dream Pallets explode (1.5-second delay, 3-meter radius) upon activation, inflicting injury on sleeping Survivors and increasing the sleep meter of awake Survivors.
  • [NEW] Teleportation to completed, blocked, endgame generators, and healing Survivors in the Dream World. Teleporting near a healing Survivor reveals them via Killer Instinct and increases their sleep meter.
  • [CHANGE] Teleport cooldown reduced to 30 seconds (no longer cancellable).
  • [NEW] Healing Survivors in the Dream World are revealed via Killer Instinct (lingering for 3 seconds after stopping).
  • [CHANGE] Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up.
  • [NEW] Alarm Clocks have a 45-second cooldown after use.

The changes are currently available on the Public Test Build (PTB), paving the way for a more balanced and engaging Nightmare experience in the main game. The exact release date for these changes is yet to be announced.
