Concord: A Hero Shooter with a Post-Launch Roadmap
Sony and Firewalk Studios' upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launches August 23rd on PS5 and PC. The developers have unveiled a post-launch content roadmap, emphasizing continuous updates and a unique approach to progression. Unlike many competitors, Concord will not feature a traditional battle pass.
No Battle Pass, Meaningful Rewards
Firewalk Studios prioritizes a rewarding base experience. Players earn meaningful rewards simply by playing, leveling up, and completing in-game objectives. This decision focuses development on enriching core gameplay rather than a battle pass system.
Season 1: The Tempest (October 2024)
Concord's first season, "The Tempest," arrives in October. Expect a new playable Freegunner character, a fresh map, additional character variants, and new cosmetic items. Weekly cinematic vignettes will expand the game's narrative. An in-game store will also launch, offering purely cosmetic items with no impact on gameplay balance.
Beyond Season 1
Season 2 is planned for January 2025, signifying Firewalk's commitment to regular seasonal content drops throughout Concord's first year.
Gameplay and Crew Builder
Concord's team-building system, "Crew Builder," allows players to customize their five-Freegunner team, with the ability to include up to three copies of a character's variants. This encourages diverse team compositions and unlocks Crew Bonuses offering various gameplay advantages. Freegunners, while high-DPS focused, are categorized into six roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden) impacting the match in unique ways. This differs from traditional Tank/Support archetypes.
Concord promises a fresh take on the hero shooter genre with its focus on rewarding gameplay and a steady stream of post-launch content.
