Hideo Kojima's eagerly awaited project, Physint, the spiritual successor to his iconic Metal Gear series, is still a considerable wait away. According to Kojima's recent interview with Le Film Francais, fans will need to hold on for "another five or six years" before they can experience this new "action espionage" game. This announcement comes as Kojima has been juggling multiple projects since his high-profile departure from Konami in 2015.

Kojima shared that he's been inundated with offers to develop games at his independent studio, but he's focused on completing Death Stranding 2 alongside Physint. "I've had so many offers since I left Konami, with serious conditions to develop games in my independent studio," Kojima explained, as translated by ResetEra member Red Kong XIX. "Besides Death Stranding 2, there's also Physint in development. That will take me another five or six years."

Despite his passion for cinema, Kojima is putting his dream of directing a movie on hold until after Physint is finished. "But maybe after that, I could finally decide to take on a film," he mused. "I grew up with cinema. Directing would be, in a way, a tribute to it. Also, I'm getting older, and I'd prefer to do it while I'm still young!"

PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst first unveiled Physint in January 2024, yet details have been scarce since then. Initially, Kojima hinted that Physint might blur the lines between video games and movies, later clarifying on X/Twitter that the project's "look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc… are all at the next level of ‘Digital Entertainment’ that could be called a ‘movie.’"

Amidst his busy schedule, Kojima is also working on several other projects, including Death Stranding 2 and OD, a new IP in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, featuring actress Hunter Schafer and filmmaker Jordan Peele. Additionally, he's involved in A24's film adaptation of the original Death Stranding.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is slated for release on June 26, and the franchise's star, actor Norman Reedus, recently hinted in an IGN interview that he would naturally reprise his role in the upcoming film adaptation.

Kojima's creative vision extends beyond his current projects. Last week, he disclosed that he's left his staff a USB stick filled with game ideas to explore after his passing. He also shared insights into some of his discarded concepts, including a unique 'Forgetting Game' where the protagonist loses crucial information and abilities if the player takes extended breaks from the game.
