Stellar Blade Multiplayer Teased, No Mods Available

The viral buzz about a hidden multiplayer mode in Stellar Blade may have been misunderstood, according to the modder behind the controversial split-screen footage circulating online.

Contrary to widespread speculation suggesting developer Shift Up secretly included multiplayer functionality, PhantomSomnus - who first shared the two-player footage in Discord - says the truth is more complicated.

"I woke up to people taking my Discord clips completely out of context," PhantomSomnus clarified on X/Twitter before explaining that "the split-screen functionality comes from Unreal Engine itself, not from Shift Up's development."

The modder managed to spawn a second Eve character using the engine's built-in local multiplayer support rather than accessing any official multiplayer code. "I only attempted split-screen to experiment," they admitted on Reddit, "and as you can see, it didn't actually work properly."

"There ARE multiplayer elements in the code," PhantomSomnus clarified, "but they're exclusively for online functionality." Their previous findings included screenshots of what appears to be remnants of an abandoned PVP mode, with "some leftover menu assets" still present in the game files.

When asked about potential multiplayer additions through official updates or mods, PhantomSomnus stated: "The chances appear extremely slim."
